Looking forward to the show in NYC and seeing James for the first time. Finally got "Hey Ma" and some tracks are stronger than others. Booth's high range seems to be leaving him a little bit, though.

The title track certainly doesn't stand among James' finest, musically or lyrically. Kudos to Glenn Tilbrook for busking for 9/11 victims in NYC in the days following the attack (http://www.babylonandon.com/glenn/news6.html). A nice selfless gesture in interesting contrast to the self-important reactionary motive of "Hey Ma." Keep the pretense at home tonight, James. After all, you are just a pop band...nothing more, nothing less.

Pipe down, Frat Boy (and stop giving Sox fans a bad name with your tag). The album is fine, but you honestly can't say it's their best.

Of course we are all entitled to our own opinions, and musical taste certainly is subjective. As someone who had many friends affected by 9/11 and a couple friends who have served in Iraq, I actually really like the message in "Hey Ma" as it echoes how I feel about the situation, but I can definitely understand how someone else may feel differently. I love the album overall and consider it to be my favorite. As for Tim's voice, hey, I just saw them twice in concert and his voice sounded as strong as ever to me!

Interesting post NYC - I'm sure you'll know whether James has done anything/contributed anything from proceeds of gigs or Hey Ma (appreciate it featured on that clip of video footage from the war). I sometimes wonder how I'd feel if it was my son or daughter coming home in pieces in a body bag and then having it sung about and then hearing the singer describe it as a 'happy' protest song.

Surely that would involve you having to have sex, bussy, so not a likely scenario.

Hey Bus - he's just insulted you there, and you've gone and sucked up to him!!
Is it just the women on here you like to spar with then? I'm always making jolly good points but you never say anything like that to me. Not that I actually care.

Back to your post - I would imagine that probably the worst thing for those parents would be if their sons and daughters were just forgotten about and swept under the carpet. The fact that they are being sung about in a song reminds us of the reality of the war, so I don't really think that is disrespectful.

It is still a protest song, even though Tim describes it as a happy one - it's not happy in an 'aren't we all glad that this happened' kind of way. It's only 'happy' in that it doesn't sound like an awful dirge that you just want to switch off from. If people are tuning out because the music sounds so depressing, then they are not going to listen to the content.

And I was wondering - is NYC your American cousin?
